Barrens willow
This plant is endemic to the Great Northern Peninsula in Newfoundland, meaning it is found nowhere else on earth! This plant grows on limestone barrens of the northern tip of the Northern Peninsula. It is a deciduous shrub and stands only up to 5cm tall and can grow up to 30cm wide. It has catkins that are red and appear ‘spiky’ until they go to seed, at which time they become ‘fluffy’ looking and disperse seeds.
