Because limestone is relatively soft rock with lots of cracks, it is easy for waves and frost action to carve limestone cliffs into peculiar shapes, arches, and caves. A limestone seacoast erodes quickly, so sea stacks and arches collapse over time, and new ones are constantly being eroded.
